The cost of living hits working families, young people, and fixed-income seniors the hardest.
Viable paths forward include:
- Eliminate Idaho’s sales tax on groceries and basic necessities
- Lower property taxes for the people who live here by tying the Homeowner’s Exemption to median home values, so it keeps pace with rising prices.
- Get serious about workforce housing. Give communities flexible tax incentives for employers, builders, and homeowners who create housing local workers can afford.
- Explore community land trusts that keep homes and working farmland affordable for future generations.
Reliable services are integral to our quality of life, property values, and maintaining a strong local economy.
- Fire Management at the state and county level - Idaho started this fire season with no funds to fight fires. My opponent has voted against every fire bill including impact fees for developers.
- Make Roads and Bridges safe and functional - Critical projects were delayed to fund the $4.5B tax cuts and most Idahoans didn't get significant returns.
- Dependable Healthcare – Rural hospitals across America are losing money. The Idaho statehouse cut reimbursements by 4%, leaving our communities to fill the gap. Both Herndon and Rasor killed efforts to keep our rural hospitals open.
- High Quality Schools - We need to fully fund our public schools, including extracurricular programs like sports that are open to all students in our district.
- Access to Idaho Colleges, Universities, and Trade Schools - Let's equip our children for all opportunities. Let's create a talent pool for local businesses. I'll make it easier, not harder, to achieve post-secondary education. Scott Herndon and Cornel Rasor support zero funds for post-secondary education and they have repeatedly voted against funding for
K-12 education.
