I’m Kathryn Larson.
I love North Idaho. I love the generosity, independence, and hard-working nature of the people who live here. I want the people who live here to benefit from the value produced here.
I believe our way of life is in jeopardy. We’ve seen the movie play out in too many resort towns. The people who built the community, can no longer afford to live there.
Under current party leadership, it is becoming easier for outside investors to acquire our land and drain our wealth.
We must protect what makes North Idaho special and continue to build opportunity for the people who live and work here. I will work tirelessly to protect our North Idaho land.
There is an alternative. It is accountable stewardship in the statehouse.
I’m not asking you for your vote, yet. I’m asking you to engage in a real conversation.
I’ll dig deep on every legislative bill and understand what is really going on and who is benefitting. I’ll make sure it works for District 1, before I vote. These three lenses provide the frameworks.
Local Decisions
Decisions are best made by the people closest to the problem – the people who have to live with the consequences.
One-size-fits-all solutions, often crafted in other states, don’t work for rural Idaho.
Scorecards built by outside interests to rate their own bills and punish homegrown bills. It’s a machine that works. Outside influences have eroded Idaho rural communities. Why would we hand our power to Boise?
Boundary County is not Boise.
Priest River problems are not Sandpoint’s issues.
Let’s reclaim rural Idaho.
Reliable Services
We expect the basics to work: emergency services, fire protection, safe roads and bridges, clean water, strong public schools, and access to qualified doctors and care providers.
Fiscal responsibility means paying attention to both sides of the ledger. Cutting a tax isn’t a bargain if it drives up a property tax, crumbling roads, lost insurance, or a closed hospital.
Idaho’s wildfire fund was depleted last year. The governor asked for reliable ongoing funding. The Legislature voted for only a fraction of what was needed. My opponent voted against even that and he got an A on his scorecard.
A good scorecard doesn’t put out a fire, fix a bridge, teach a child, or keep a hospital open.
Affordable Idaho
We want our kids and grandkids to be able to afford to live and work here. We want to reward the people who help build our communities. That means supporting a strong local economy.
North Idaho already has a robust economy – agriculture, logging, aviation, salad dressing, retail, tourism, and growing tech.
Bills that prefer large, out-of-district businesses or create new costs for locals hurt us. We want the money generated here to stay and circulate here. I want to ensure that the people who live and work here have the same opportunities as any other Idahoan or American.
Let’s support growth that circulates dollars within the community.
